Green Education from Green Teachers

Helping our teachers educate children about renewable energy

Many teachers taught their students about renewable energies starting primarily in the 1970’s during the oil crisis. These were probably not the first “green teachers,” but since then, green education has become an even more important topic. This was a time when interest in renewable energy was high and the government created federal programs for the research and development of solar and wind power. As oil prices dropped in the 1980‘s & 1990’s, the government and much of the American public lost interest in renewable energy.

As a result of global warming and poor air quality, the renewable energy movement is spreading rapidly. Going green not only is it the trendy thing to do, but the right thing. You may have already noticed your students making a difference or expressing their beliefs about renewable energies. For example, some of them may already live in a home powered by a solar system.

Renewable energy green education is an ideal topic for any grade level. Many of your students, when grown, will be living in solar powered homes and commuting in bio mass fueled cars. Much of the energy for them will be from solar powered systems, biogas digesters, hydro power and wind power turbines.
